Prof dr. Douwe D. Breimer

Prof dr. Douwe D. Breimer (1943) studied pharmacy at the University of Groningen and he obtained his PhD in pharmacology from the University of Nijmegen.
Since 1975, he is a professor of pharmacology at Leiden University and he was director of research at the Leiden Academic Center for Drug Research. From 2001 to 2007 he was Rector Magnificus of Leiden University. He (co)authored more than 500 scientific papers and he obtained honorary doctorates from the University of Ghent, Uppsala University, the University of London, the University of Navarra in Pamplona, Hoshi University in Tokyo and the University of Montreal.
In more recent years he was Vice-Chairman of the supervisory board of the Technical University in Delft, a member of the governing body of University College Cork and a member of the board of KULeuven.
He also chaired the non-executive board of a major venture capital company in Amsterdam and he served on advisory or supervisory boards of several non-profit organizations.
