Chair
Prof. dr. Stan Gielen (chair) studied physics at the Radboud University in Nijmegen, Netherlands. After his PhD in biophysics and research positions at the University of Utrecht and Northwestern University, Chicago, he was appointed as full professor in Biophysics at Radboud University Nijmegen in 1988. Over 65 PhD students obtained their PhD under his supervision.

He was founder of the Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behavior. The results of his research activities led to several innovative start-up companies. He served as dean of the faculty of Science of Radboud University from 2010–2016 and was appointed president of NWO, the Dutch Research Council, in 2016, until his retirement in 2021.

He is a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy for Arts and Sciences. Since 2021 he chairs the non-executive board of the Brightlands Smart Services Campus, a public-private partnership focusing on smart digital services using data science and AI to make a better, healthier and sustainable world. He also serves on the advisory and supervisory boards of several non-profit organizations.
